Coastal Sea Kayak Expedition (6-Days)
Suggested Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Esmeraldas This afternoon we transfer to Esmeraldas, located on the Pacific Coast. Overnight at Playa Escondida.
Day 2: Bilsa to Mompiche (Sea Kayaking) This morning we drive south to our "put in" in Bilsa. We begin paddling into a small wildlife reserve where black howler monkeys are often seen playfully swinging in the trees. We continue navigating down the calm waters of the Bilsa River, cutting through verdant rainforest abundant with exotic bird life. We duck beneath stretches of mangroves trees in the fishing village of Manchas then paddle through a small estuary to our home for the night in Mompiche. Overnight at Playa Escondida. (B,L,D)
Day 3: Portete Mangroves (Sea Kayaking) We awaken early to a chorus of exotic marine birds and the sound of breaking waves hitting the shoreline. There's time to wander along the beach before breakfast, or just relax with a good cup of coffee. We drive from Mompiche to the entrance of the Portete estuary then slip our kayaks into the water, paddling throughout a mangrove forest below hundreds of buttress roots of this exotic tree. It's a two-hour paddle before we reach the town of Portete, a small Afro-American fisherman community. The villagers are so curious by us and our vessels that gather around us as we "take out" on the shore. After a short break here we make our way back through other mangrove channels on Mompiche Bay and paddle back to Casa Verde, our home for the night. (B,L,D)
Day 4: Mompiche to Manchas (Sea Kayaking) We rise early, to the sweet
scent of the ocean then feast on a homemade typical breakfast. Afterwards we pack up our gear for our final paddling journey to Manchas. We travel due north, punching through gentle rolling swells alongside inviting sandy beaches. Overhead are screeching marine birds such as blue footed boobies, frigates, petreles and pelicans. If we're lucky we could spot a family of dolphins. We explore Isla Bonita and navigate on to Muisne. Our kayak expedition ends in Muisne. Here our driver will be awaiting us to transfer us back and relax in our hotel in Same. (B,L,D)
Day 5: Esmeraldas - Quito (Free day) This morning is at leisure to enjoy the last of the beach. Later this afternoon we transfer to the airport for a local flight back to Quito. This evening we meet for our final dinner together in Ecuador. (B,L,D)
Day 6: Departure You will be transferred to the airport for your international flight back home.
Included: Meals as indicated, (B-breakfast, L- lunch, D-dinner), all accommodation (twin shared), all internal transportation , sea kayaks, airport transfers and veteran guides.
