Day 1
Quito - Otavalo - Cotacachi - Community lodge
We depart from Quito and head north visiting several indigenous villages, we visit artisan workshops, musical instrument factories, weaving looms and other local craft shops in the area. We visit the Otavalo indigenous market. In the evening we will be at one of the community lodges sharing time with an Indigenous family.
Our indigenous homestay experience starts in includes private transportation to and from the indigenous community.
Each lodge has one bedroom with two beds, one is a double bed and the other is a single bed with a total capacity for 3 people, it is independent of the family home for the comfort of the visitors. Other amenities are: fireplace, private bathroom with hot water, social area.
We count with 12 lodges spread out amongst 4 communities: Morochos, Chilcapamba, La Calera and Tunibamba. The purpose of our lodging with the families is to allow visitors the opportunity to share and enjoy everyday life activities of the host family, the scenery, clean air, customs, traditions, folklore, breeding of livestock, arts and cratwork, and much more, a true immersion in the culture of the ethnic group.
Visitors share 2 meals with the family, dinner and breakfast, Andean fresh foods are served; visitors will enjoy corn and potatoe based meals with organic vegetables, grown in the families own backyard. At breakfast there will fresh fruit jams and juices. Lunch is optional and has an extra cost of $2 per person.
D
Day 2
Community lodge - Cuicocha lake - Quito
Today we spend some more time with our host family and share some work around the house, we will get to now a little more about their lifestyle and everyday activities. After a delicious homemade breakfast we will visit the Cuicocha crater lake and enjoy a short hike in search of orchids and Andean birds.
Our services end on the afternoon of the second day with the return transfer to your hotel in Quito.
