ABOUT LLAUCANA COCHA
The women at Llaucana Cocha are very much involved in the production of ceramic and traditional handicrafts such as jewelry made with seeds from the jungle as well as typical clothing and adornments. These traditions have been passed down from mother to daughter through many generations.
The pottery is decorated with a range of petroglyphs from the area and is often painted with mineral dyes in tones of white, red ochre and black with fine brushes made of hair of women and children. Some of the pieces are smoke-blackened like pots that were made for cooking. As a woman visitor at Cabanas Llaucana Cocha, you will be given the opportunity to observe the women and children in the process of making these ceramics and to participate with them.
Travellers will have an opportunity to learn some of the techniques used to hunt and catch fish. The people of Llaucana Cocha have constructed fish rearing pools and are raising indigenous species for their own and their guests consumption.
Fish and meat are served sparingly and combined with other sources of protein. All of the food is prepared from fresh ingredients, many directly from the jungle, and elegantly served. You will enjoy a great variety of local vegetarian dishes. Three and four course healthy meals are served.
All meals are served in the guest dining hut. Guest accommodation is in traditional cabanas with wooden floors located alongside the Tena River. Dormitory and private rooms are available. Sheets, towels and mosquito nets are provided.
