Oyacachi to Chaco trek , 5 days

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 TREKKING TO THE CAYAMBE
We depart from Quito heading towards the eastern Andes range. Our first stop is the Quito-Loma Inca observatory to learn about this mythical structure. As we approach the giant snow capped Cayambe, we will pass the Cangahua Indian community and enjoy the scenic melting landscape of man and nature. We arrive to Oyacachi, a magical hidden community immersed deep in the Cayambe-Coca National Reserve. We begin our trek in the afternoon and spent walking down the rest of the day. We will camp out in this pristine wilderness. (B, L, D)

Day 02 : TREKKING TO CEDRO CHICO
Sunrise will find us bathing in the quiet pools before breakfast. We will depart into the gorge of the Oyacachi river. This first day is a moderate hike along a pre-Inca trail. We will spend this evening camping close to Cedro Chico river. (B,L,D)

Day 03 : TREKKING INTO THE FOREST
You may bathe in the refreshing, sparkling river while a hot breakfast is prepared. From here we hike deep into the cloud forest accompanied by the sound of the gurgling river. Occasional horizon (river gorge) sights add an inexplicable essence to this expedition. At midday we will enjoy a picnic lunch. The final challenge of the day is crossing a 60 meter wide river hanging from a rope bridge. All safety precautions are taken and each crosser will be secured by a harness, safety line and a back up rope. After this dose of adrenaline and fun, we’ll rest and have dinner in a wooden cabin. (B,L,D)

Day 04 : TREKKING IN THE LOW TRANSITIONAL FOREST
Enjoy your warm breakfast because from this point the terrain becomes more rugged and the jungle more dense. You will experience what it is like to be truly and deeply surrounded by nature as you scramble through the jungle searching for the way. This is a true adventure. We will again carry our lunch to dine in a jungle clearing. Once we have reached our destination, we will dine and camp on the riverside where we’ll enjoy the sunset bathing in the Oyacachi natural river pools. (B,L,D)

Day 05 : TREKKING TO THE OYACACHI RIVER
Our final day is a 3 hour hike to the final challenge, crossing the Santa Maria river which is 35 meter wide. Our guides will prepare a practical rope system to ensure a safe yet wet passage. Once across we have a short hike through some upper Amazon milk farms and one final river crossing. This time we will use the steel bridge spanning the unbelievably wide Oyacachi River. Finally, you will transfer back to Quito. (B,L,D)
