DAY 1: Quito - Tena
Reception at RICANCIE's head office in Tena, where visitors will be given detailed information about the tour, followed by car on the Campo Cocha road to the bridge at the Arajuno river where visitors will board motor canoes and travel down the Arajuno to Buano Pungo. From here a 2-hour walk to the jungle lodges situated on the banks of the Cusano river in the Chuva Urcu community reserve. Welcome drink followed by supper.
DAY 2: Ricancie community
Breakfast. The day's adventure starts with a 2-hour trek through primary rainforest, seeing the jungle's fauna and flora, including ethnobotanical medicinal plants and visiting an animals' gathering place before ascending the Chuva Urcu 'spider-monkey' mountain with its wonderful view over the surrounding area, where lunch will be served. In the afternoon return to the lodges and free time till supper in the evening. There is an optional trek at night to see nocturnal wildlife.
DAY 3: Ricancie community
Breakfast followed by 2-hour trek to the Cusano river where visitors can ride in dugout canoes and traditional rafts and practice fishing and enjoy unforgettable views of the Sumaco volcano and the surrounding amazon valley. Return to lodges for lunch. In the afternoon visitors will learn about the use of jungle materials in Quichua tool and craft making. Supper.
DAY 4: Ricancie community
Breakfast, leaving early for 3-hour return walk to the Arajuno river followed by canoe ride back to Puerto Misahuallí where a car will take visitors to the Cuya Loma lodges in time for lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to the Ethnographic Museum and introduction to natural cures and the use of medicinal plants and other materials used for the treatment and prevention of illnesses, both physical and spiritual. In the evening supper is followed by traditional music and dance and a welcoming drink with huayusa leaves – a symbol of fertility and youth for the Upper Napo Quichuas.
DAY 5: Ricancie community - Tena - Quito
Breakfast and departure by car to Tena, arriving 9:30am. Return to Quito.
